Product Description
Iso•Cool™ pillows and mattress toppers feature Outlast® Adaptive Comfort® material that adjusts to the body's changing temperature. The microscopic Phase Change Material (PCM) beads sense whether the body's mean temperature is too warm or too cool. If the body's temperature is too warm, the product absorbs heat and feels cool in order to regulate body temperature. If the body's temperature is too cool, the product releases heat and feels warm in order to regulate the body temperature. Carpenter Co.'s Iso•Cool products feature the highest available concentration of PCMs, making them extremely effective. Iso•Cool pillows are available in two luxurious and supportive fills: spiral-spun polyester and visco-elastic foam. The Iso•Cool mattress topper is available as a polyester cover or as a 3-inch, high-density visco-elastic foam mattress pad with a polyester cover.

2 out of 5 stars Iso-Cool Pillow   March 21, 2010
M Tweed (Iowa)
I ordered this pillow based on the prior reviews. I have to buy new pillows every 4-6 months and was looking for one that was comfortable and would last longer than 6 months before going flat. I have bought both cheap and expensive pillows and have yet to find one that lasts. I received this pillow and hated it the minute I got it. It is hard and horribly uncomfortable. This was my first experience with a memory foam pillow and it will be my last.

1 out of 5 stars Weird Odor   March 17, 2010

Upon opening the pillow I noticed a strange musty and/or chemical smell emitting from the pillow. It was so strong I couldn't sleep on it; even leaving it in the open air and out of the plastic it arrived in overnight did not help. I returned it and got a refund.

3 out of 5 stars Good support, but smells   March 17, 2010

The support is really great for my neck. The only down side is that it smells like chemicals or something. I've tried spraying it with febreeze and even have 2 pillow cases on it, and the smell is still there.

4 out of 5 stars Good pillow for the side sleeper.   March 15, 2010
M.D.C. (San Diego, CA)
If you're considering this pillow because of neck pain as a side sleeper...if you've searched high and low for the perfect pillow so you can get a good night's sleep...if you've been frustrated in the past with numerous separate pillows, this one is a good one to consider. I would submit to you one factual statement: The pillow is not a cure-all. It will help, it will not be the final solution. In order to balance everything, you should have a pillow like this, a body pillow (so your arms are in an acceptable position while you sleep) and a knee pillow (so your legs don't overextend in a given direction and so that your knees are kept separate). All of these, in conjunction with a good mattress, will afford you the sleep you desire. One will help, but won't be the ultimate answer.

I've fought with neck and back pain for a while. I have a pretty good mattress (Visco-Superior Memory Foam Mattress Only Cal King), yet I was still getting pain and stiffness in given areas. I've tried all sorts of pillows, and they always had one issue or another: too firm, not firm enough, or in the case of memory foam as others have stated, because they soften with body heat, my head and neck would get so warm that it would basically make the pillow softer than even feather pillows - not comfortable for a side sleeper. I tried all sorts of ergonomic pillows and specialty pillows, none seemed to work.

I bought this one with skepticism, but as I felt the material I realized that it was a lot more dense in the middle - a trait the standard memory foam pillows don't have. It's also fairly heavy, heavier than I anticipated for such a pillow. The first night I slept on it I was suffering from some pretty bad neck pains due to the previous pillow, and I know from experience that those don't go away overnight. Having now slept on the pillow a number of days, here is what I can tell you with confidence.

This pillow is for side sleepers ONLY. It's designed explicitly for side sleepers. If you try to sleep on your back with this pillow, you will be uncomfortable. I don't know why that is - I assume the dense core elevates your head in an odd manner - all I know is that it really was not pleasing for me, as sometimes I wake up on my back even if I slept on my side. For the side sleep it was quite good. My head sinks in, but not so far as to be uncomfortable or to where I can't breathe, and you can feel how it's keeping your neck as straight as possible. As long as your mattress is providing the proper support and is not dipped or deformed, you should be in a pretty good position.

I also noticed that the pillow did not get abnormally hot as with other pillows. It seems to absorb the heat, and then dissipate it evenly throughout the pillow and downward, so it doesn't stay concentrated where your head and neck are. Those that don't like sleeping on a hot pillow probably know what I'm referring to...it's just not comfortable. Because it didn't get overly hot, it never gets overly soft. It also does not seem to lose its size, shape or density no matter how much I sleep on it.

All in all it's a great pillow. The only comment I would make to people considering it is that if you're a side sleeper who happens to be on their back on occasion, like me, you might find some slight discomfort. As your body gets used to the pillow and realizes that it doesn't have to fight the pillow, everything will get better.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Pillow for a Side Sleeper!   March 14, 2010
GaryRob636 (Missouri)
First let me say that I've been through what seems like a million pillows to finally find one that is comfortable and stays that way. I love this pillow. It's just thick enough for me (about 5" to start compressing to about 4" in use). It does not accumulate heat or feel hard on the head like other memory foam pillows. After a month of use it shows no signs of any compression changes (most pillows I have used tend to lose support and flatten in a relatively short time). The profile is closer to flat (it is bowed somewhat) than most pillows so you get some neck support instead of hinging your neck. This is the perfect pillow for a side sleeper and/or a CPAP user as your head doesn't sink so much into it. I highly recommend this pillow.
